What are martial arts? Well, it’s not the practice of making crafts with your local sheriff’s office.
Time for Combat Training
So, when you think about something cool to do, and it works, you might want to write that million dollar book. But you need to create a system of the way your idea works so that others can use it too and so that you can make sure that it can spread across the globe – martial arts was the same way. While it was fine for the initial fighters to just fight any way they wanted, over time, they realized it was a better idea to have a certain style of fighting which would be systemized. This way, they could teach classes and yell at students who weren’t doing things right. And while we might never know which style is the right style, we can be sure that whatever style made it through the years is the most effective style.
Choosing to Defend and to Fight
There were a number of reasons why martial arts were developed and are now practiced in the world. To some, it might seem fairly clear as to why people fight, others aren’t as uncivilized as you are. There are more reasons to know how to fight, rather than being a bully on the playground:
- To defend one’s self.
- To defend one’s family.
- To stop an animal from hurting you.
- Just for fun.
- Getting chicks.
- Starring in action movies.
See? It’s about more than just fighting.
Are You Ready for Battle?
Within any practice of martial arts, it’s not just that you know what you’re doing, but that you begin to practice the movements in order to be powerful and effective. A punch that barely hits someone else, but hurts you is not a movement which is going to be the most productive choice during a fight. But if you can pull off a backhanded fist which snaps your wrist and makes them see stars, that’s going to be effective. What does this mean? You need to practice, stupid. Yes, you need to make sure you are doing the same movements again and again, even if you’re a younger martial artist. The more repetition you can do of a certain movement, the more likely you are to make sure that movement is effective when it really counts.
Martial arts is a system of combat practice in which you will be able to do some things which hurt people and other things which will not. Of course, if you practice, you will be much more effective.
