Methods to deter sports persons from using banned substances

There has been a recent spurt in the number of people who are using drugs in various sports. This is a common problem and it needs to be stopped immediately. This cannot go on because the sports will lose the sheen. There are many people who try to control this with various regulatory bodies, but all things seem to fail.

One of the reasons for the number of people trying to cheat by using drugs and other banned substances is that the people who are in the various governing councils of the countries sports authority are not taking adequate steps to deter this problem.

There are many sports people who are paid a lot of money in terms of sponsorships and other endorsements. This huge amount of money that they get makes them to become greedier. This is also one of the main reasons for the number of doping problems to have increased in the recent years.

There are certain methods that should be used by the various governing boards to reduce the doping. These methods can include some of the following recommendations. The sports person who is caught to have used dope should first be stripped of all the medals that the person had won till then. Other than that all the sponsorship deals and any prize money that was won should be returned. This is for the first time offenders. When this is done, the person will be very scared to use drugs again in sports.

In fact, once the person has been caught a second time, then a complete life ban from being involved in all kinds of sports activities should be done. This will prevent every sports person from using drugs because the measures are very stringent. Though it may look tough, it may be the only method of saving various sports events.

Role of politics in sports

Politics should ideally not be playing any role in sports, but these days politicians are everywhere. There are many countries where the politics makes or breaks the career of many budding sports people. There are times when the politics can cause the breakdown of sports events in a whole country.

The main reason for the sports not being developed in many of the developing nations is that the people who are living there are not able to overcome the apathy of the politicians. The politicians in many countries try to think of their own benefits and do not care about the sports events.
Many countries have poor infrastructure and that is the reason for the poor participation. There are countries that are very large, but have a small representation in the world of sports because of the politics that is played by the government.

There are also many instances where the sports bodies and authorities in certain countries being ruled by the politicians who know very little about the various games. As the politicians know little about the method of arranging or organizing a sports event, there is a lot of problems for the sports people. Training facilities are no available. Other than that, there are also no coaches available to coach the people who have talent to excel in a particular sport. This leads to the people having various problems and inability to compete at the highest level.

It is very important for the sports and politics or politicians to go hand in hand, or there should be complete autonomy for the sports people to perform and all aid should be given to them. Only if there are world class training facilities will the sports people be able to train. Once they train, they will be able to excel in various sports.

The Commandment of Modern Taekwondo

When you peal back the layers of Taekwondo and take away the very physical aspect of it this form of martial arts is very much a test of loyalty as it is a test of the physical body. There are many elements of Taekwondo that teach a person how to be strong both phsyically, emotionally and mentally. One of those elements in Taekwondo can be traced back to what is known as the commandments of Taekwondo.

The commandments of Taekwondo are what a person who practices the art of this martial art promises to live and abide by. These rules don’t just have to do with the area of Taekwondo but it also has to do with the issue of outside the training grounds and battle field. These commandments are made to make a person better in their being and as a person.

The commandments come from an ancient form of Taekwondo which is traced back to military ruling. Those commandments had elements such as showing loyalty to one’s king, selecting the killing shot carefully, trusting friends and family and not retreating from the battlefield.

Today Taekwondo has what is called “The Modern Commandments of Taekwondo” which many students are asked to follow when they first start out in this martial art. These commandments are from the old ones but a bit more updated and modern.

Here is a list of the modern commandments of Taekwondo.

1. Loyalty to Ones Country
2. Respect for Ones Parents
3. Loyalty to Ones Spouse
4. Show Loyalty to Friends
5. Respect Elders
6. Respect Your Teachers or Mentors
7. Don’t Take a Life Easily
8. Spirit
9. Show Loyalty To Your School
10. Finish Whatever You Begin No Matter How Hard.

The only way to be a true student of Taekwondo is to truly embrace these commandments and follow them both in the art of Taekwondo and outside of it too.

Taekwondo and Family

Long perceived as a sport for mostly children and teens, where parents are commonly perceived to drop off the kids at taekwondo. More and more adults and parents along with their children are seeing the benefits of the sport for reasons of both personal development and quality family time.

Taekwondo isn’t just for kids. The sport has its roots in long established methodologies and philisophies dating back hundreds of years, where timeless principles in moral character and discipline are key to success. Taekwondo and other similar martial arts are a great opportunity for the family to participate as a unit, share in its physical training and learn from its various mind and body principles designed to improve personal confidence and respect for oneself and others.

As families begin to appreciate and benefit more and more from the various aspects that taekwondo has to offer, this will open up the sport for further growth and expansion as more than a daycare or after-school program. This will better position taekwondo as an activity for both children and adults alike. And how more fortunate for adults to be able to share in an activity with their children and learning it simultaneously.

With the support from accomplished instructors and a dedicated program to the precepts and origins of this timeless martial art, adults and children alike can partake in a training sure to last them for years to come. There is not only the competitive aspects of taekwondo, where tournaments and sparring events exist for age groups ranging from eight years of age to forty years and above. There is also the self-defense component that promises to impart a greater sense of confidence and awareness among its students. So should the need arise to rely on self-defense tactics for reasons of protecting oneself or loved ones, the background and training is already in place.

Taekwondo and Weapons Training

The idea of picking up a set of Nun chucks or samurai sword may be timeless among the imaginations of most children. Spawned from days spent watching action heroes on television, from cartoons to film, the idea of wielding a weapon with the accuracy and effortlessness of a martial arts master has long dominated a child’s fantasy.

However, as a beginning student enters the first days of class in martial arts training, weapons will be the last thing on the agenda for many months, if not years. Taekwondo and other martial arts like it perceive weapons application as a tool reserved for the much more advanced and better trained student. One who has already proven efficient and effective in the basic and advanced coordination of hand and foot techniques.

Wielding a weapon when a student is yet to be able to apply a proper front kick, or upward block, seems backward and unproductive from the standpoint of taekwondo instruction and most other martial arts. In some ways, one might find this analogous to learning to walk before you can run, or learning to run before you can leap a hurdle. There is a natural progression, and certain hand and body movements are fundamental to proper application and effective implementation of a weapon.

However, try to explain this to a child on the first day of class, their mind saturated with dreams and vision of replicating Bruce Lee with a long staff, and you may find yourself up against more than you’ve bargained for. Some begining students with similar fantasies eventually learn to appreciate and in some cases become just a fascinated with the basic forms required to progress in the art. While others simply can not see past the intircacies and wonder of fighting with a weapon.

As with other aspects of life, where patience proves to be a virtue, so might a similar rational be applied here. Though, it might not hurt to purchase a child-safe sword or Nun chucks, leave the child in an open space to experiment, and enjoy the show.

Martial Arts Versus Combat Sports

What differentiates traditional martial arts from the fairly recent and growing in popularity classification of combat sports? Some might argue that they are both the same, while others feel that martial arts encompass a lifestyle, while participation in combat sports is simply that–a sport.

Some styles of martial arts are often confused and blur the line between being a combat sport and a martial art. These are Taekwondo, Judo, Karate and Jiu Jitsu.

In coming up with a valid answer to the question of what is a combat sport and what is martial arts, one must first address the issue of focus or perspective. For instance, Taekwondo can be learned purely as a competitive sport in which a point system is used to evaluate your performance during a sparring event or competition.

Yet, taekwondo can also be experienced as a martial art where other aspects are learned in addition to the specific fighting techniques. These other aspects might include certain philosophies and moral precepts dating back to the origins of martial arts in Buddhism, such as meditation, a moral code and specific behavior to live your life by. These have often been considered valuable aspects among various tradition of fighting styles, as they also impart a standard against which particularly dangerous techniques of combat may only be applied.

In considering how to view your participation in martial arts, you must consider what is your ultimate goal? Is it to satisfy a competitive need? Or is it to achieve a deeper sense of physical and mental well-being in your life? Regardless of which you choose, the reality of learning true combat techniques that might in one hand save you from harm against the unlikely attack of an assailant, might on the other result in serious harm, injury or even death if not practiced with care and responsibility.
