With martial arts training, you can see a number of results in yourself as well as in how others treat you.
Change in Your Strength
Of course, this is a fighting program, so it would make sense that your body would change when you start a martial arts training program. You’re going to get your behind kicked from the first day you get into the dojo, and not just literally. Many karate and Taekwondo programs are high intensity, with many calisthenics and running, causing you to either throw up or get in shape quickly. The more you go to class, the more you will be able to see your body begin to shift from something that’s flabby and frumpy to a body that’s lean and toned – men and women alike. You’re going to be able to see that your muscles can lift more and that you can kick and punch harder a few weeks into your training, once the soreness goes away.
Change in Your Weight
Assuming you don’t eat a few pounds of donuts on the way back to your house after class, martial arts training is going to help you lose weight as well. You are going to sweat more in class than you might in any other sort of workout. And since you will only get better at your form when you continue to workout consistently, you will be able to burn off a lot of calories over the course of a week – and over the course of your belt training, if you’re into that sort of thing.
Change Your Discipline
While this is harder to measure than your waist size, you will find that once you begin to take karate and other types of martial arts seriously, you will be able to see changes in your mind as well. You will be more patient and you will be able to see that you can commit to other practices in your life more easily. Work will not seem as stressful and you will also begin to see that your life is much more calm and serene.
All because you took up fighting.
